11/22/2023 0 Comments Best macbook music production![]() Don’t fall into the consumer trap of buying the best just because some guy on YouTube did a review. ![]() You gotta be realistic in who you are, the type of projects you work on, and whether you make an income from this technology and if it’s worth spending the thousands to upgrade. Create and arrange music in real time and quickly build beats and melodies. If you think in those terms, as mentioned…there is no end. ![]() Most of us don’t need to move past the mid tier level performance products.Īnd if you want to “future proof” one could argue that the max only goes to 64 gigs and you should go the M1 ultra instead…. Figure out a way to purchase what you can afford (and I don’t mean what your credit card can afford) and learn to manage your sessions so you are taking advantage of your systems true potential. If your answer to 1 is no, then you shouldn’t be paying top of the line price for top of the line gear. Bottom line, it boils down to two questions:Ģ) will the upgrade helping me complete projects faster so I can take on more projects Sure the max is the only one to utilize 64 gigs but why splurge when you won’t even utilize that machine to its full potential? You are better off getting a larger SSD and letting memory swap do it’s thing when the extra memory is needed.Īgain, max is truly only for those doing extrnsive video and photo work. If you are only relying on the technology to make things easier for you then there is no limit to what you will need. Most composers I know are running 16-32 gigs of ram with zero issues and there sessions are massive orchestral pieces. Keeping things in MIDI tracks and playing them back as such is not productive and if you don’t want to commit then you should be freezing those tracks once a part is recorded in. Honestly, 32 Gigs is more then enough for basic bedroom studio use and if you are maxing out memory then you aren’t managing your sessions properly. Great machines anyway, especially for music.Ħ4 gigs is still overkill for most unless you are a working composer who uses vast sound libraries. even Apple makes no difference between Pro and Max in Logic (and trust me, think they would have emphasised it if there was any). One more advantage I see here is that M1 Pro is heating less than M1 Max due to less GPU cores, which makes a big difference for me when recording voices in the same room.Īs for music benchmarks. However I read afterwards that the M1 Max eats quite a bit more battery than the M1 Pro and since battery life and battery health over time (longer battery time means less charging cycles) are more important to me than the extra GPU, I decided to cancel my order and got the 14" M1 Pro with 32 GB UM instead. Plus you get double bandwidth and the higher processor. I thought 200 € plus should be ok for peace of mind. Ordered the same configuration "just in case", to make sure it's future-proof for my future music production needs. I don't change my laptop very often (my current one is 9 years old and still works). A bit late to the party here but I'll throw my 2 cents.
